It started in 2004, in front of a SCADA panel at Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador. I was fresh out of a systems engineering degree, tasked with implementing a next-generation SCADA/EMS system for the country's transmission control center. That's where an idea took root that never left me: if that system fails, it isn't a screen that goes dark — it's the lights of millions of people.
That idea took me to Germany, to Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, to study Computational Engineering while translating industrial automation documentation for Siemens. I returned to Ecuador with a clear conviction: securing industrial systems isn't an IT checklist — it's the last line of defense for infrastructure nobody notices until it stops working.
For nearly a decade I built and led the corporate information security program for Ecuador's entire electricity industry as CISO of CELEC EP, drove a Latin American cybersecurity alliance for the energy sector, and coordinated the Industrial Cybersecurity Center at a national level. In 2019 I moved to Germany to work on OT/ICS cybersecurity R&D at Airbus Protect, where I now protect critical infrastructure and strategic manufacturing at a different scale.
Alongside all of that, the same obsession with explaining the invisible found another shape: OT Land, a narrative universe that teaches children — and the adults who look after them — the real principles of industrial cybersecurity through characters, not manuals. Because the best way to protect the future is to teach it early.
